How long do software projects take?
You’ll receive a time estimate and proposal before your project starts. In the past five years, average project delivery time from requirements gathering to launch is four months.
The length of your project depends on the scope of your project as determined by requirements. Some projects have taken six weeks to deliver. Others have taken 1.5 years to deliver.

How much does your software cost?
The cost of custom software (custom apps) is determined by the scope of your project and number of days it will take a team to deliver your software.
A web app launched into production with public-facing screens, custom UI, admin section, push notifications, reporting dashboard, 3 levels of user role (login / authorization) and two API-based third-party integrations is likely to cost in the vicinity of $150K + GST.

A functional prototype for a PWA that demonstrates the system tangibly but is not connected to real data may be $40K + GST.
As a policy, Soda Digital’s minimum project size for launch ready software is $60K + GST.
What's needed from clients to complete the project?
You don’t need to be overly technical to commission and oversee a custom software project. But it’s important that you make time to discuss requirements upfront, participate at least once a fortnight in a WIP session, and are available and willing to participate in the review of software prior to launch. Reviewing software regularly enables you to provide feedback and validate solution quality.

How do you guarantee product quality?
Soda Digital has been developing software for 21 years and has a strict but flexible Quality Assurance (QA) process. This includes unit testing, automated tests and code review by Senior Developers to ensure code is of the highest quality.
Manual user testing and integration testing ensure the system comes together as a whole and functionality works as intended. The goal is always offering a great user experience while achieving business objectives.
We can also monitor and maintain the performance of systems after launch under a support and maintenance package. To find out more, call Soda Digital on 1300 525 662.
Do you offer support after launch?
Like all technology, custom software needs to be updated and optimised to be kept secure, performant and operational. New functionality is often required to keep up with a changing business environment.
At Soda Digital, we have a range of software support and maintenance options available including retainer and block of hours support. We even work with you to customise your support plan. Keeping track of spend and support tasks is easy with your own private support portal and a structured ticketing system to call on.
How many people in your team?
Soda Digital is a privately owned Australian business with a core hub of Senior Developers and Software Architects who’ve worked together for many years, supported by a full-stack development team of more than 10, but less than 20 software developers.
We also have dedicated project managers and software testers. Typically, there will be at least one Senior on your project. The majority of our team is Senior or Mid-level.
What technologies do you work in?
Soda Digital is proficient in mainstream programming languages and platforms, but has specialist expertise in Microsoft technologies including SQL and Azure Cloud. We’re highly efficient in our core tech stack, and have been working in Microsoft .NET for more than 20 years — since when it was first released.
Will you sign an NDA?
The details of your idea or project are safe with Soda Digital. We’re happy to sign your NDA, or provide you with ours, which is also designed to protect your private information. We know and respect it's your idea. All we want to do is build great software for you.
Where are you based?
Our Head Office and much of our development team is in Sydney. We also have offices in Brisbane and Melbourne. But our clients are Australia-wide, and even international.
We'll still come see you in Mackay, Bendigo, Darwin, Port Adelaide, Perth or Hobart, or anywhere else in Australia, if you're serious about going forward and require a face-to-face meeting.
How long before you start?
Because we have a reasonable-sized team of developers and support roles, you won't have to wait long for us to start your project. Typically, we can get going within a few weeks of contract signing.
Which payment models do you offer?
Soda Digital offers its customers a range of flexible pricing options including fixed price, time and materials, block of time or dedicated team model.
How involved can I be in the project?
Collaboration is encouraged. To ensure a smooth engagement, we believe good communication between developer and client is essential throughout the project.
Our inclusive working style includes regular WIP meetings, as well as providing software for review on staging sites as progress is made. You can be highly involved and will have many opportunities to offer feedback throughout your project. We've even had clients in the office, working shoulder-to-shoulder with us on their software product or app.
Can I change my requirements as work progresses?
The answer is yes.
During a time and materials engagement or block of time engagement, introducing change into your project is reasonably straightforward.
If it's a fixed-cost project and scope, and a small change, we’ll try to accommodate you without cost, within reason. If it's a larger change to functionality, we'll estimate and document the change, issuing a change request with an additional quote for the work.
Who owns the IP?
All IP created for the project is owned by you, the client.
The exception is existing IP from 3rd parties, which we may utilise to bring down the cost of your project. For example, Power BI, Xero, Campaign Monitor or SharePoint.
Can you support my existing software team?
Many clients with inhouse teams still utilise Soda Digital to access technical expertise, top up software delivery capability, or meet a tight project deadline. We’re very experienced in working closely and productively with other teams and third parties.
